Study Abroad
Explore the world
Our students have always had a thirst for adventure and discovery. Multiple offices across campus offer international programs that make it easy for you to satisfy that desire to explore new cultures and ideas while still pursuing your degree.
Studying abroad is an important part of the DU experience for both undergraduates and graduates—a chance to immerse yourself in a new perspective and use that knowledge and understanding to strengthen your studies, your community and your career.
The Undergraduate Study Abroad Experience
Most undergraduate students choose to study abroad in fall of their junior year. Our Office of International Education guides them through the entire process, from finding a program that meets their needs and goals, to applying, to working to ensure any health or safety concerns are addressed.
With more than 100 DU Partner Programs offered, our students find experiences that advance their current academic work and passions. Eligible students can utilize the Cherrington Global Scholars benefit which offsets some of the significant costs of studying abroad on these programs, like roundtrip airfare and visa fees.
In addition to academics, students explore and surround themselves with new cultures and ideas while making connections with locals and other program participants. Prior to departure, students develop cross-cultural communication skills that help them maximize these experiences abroad in a required Exploring Global Citizenship course.
We strive to develop cross-cultural connections and the new perspectives that come with them by encouraging students to study and live abroad for at least one quarter. But there are also opportunities for students to study abroad on short-term or faculty-led programs through their academic department.
